Rottweiler psychologist

Believe it or not nowdays there is a profession that is increasing at a great speed.
We are talking about dog psychologists.

These so called experts (sometimes they are but not always) come from different fields such as veterinary, psychology and so on.

The problems that are faced most of the time are aggression due to dominance, separation anxiety, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorders.

But you know what is interesting about most of the problems?

The one who should change the behavior first is the owner not the dog.

Most of the time all the above described problems are generated by spoiling the dogs too much, thinking about the dog in human terms (this is when you think that dogs have the same mindset as people) or treating them badly by not giving them enough space, excercise, fun/play time and so on.

So if you ever should face one of these problems with your rottie think about what YOU can change first before seeing a dog psychologist.

Now go have some fun with your best friend,

Andy & Dinna

I don´t want him to be nice, I want him to be bad

A while ago on a trip to a northeastern region here in Brazil we ended up in a bar that was right in front of the beach.

The owner had two beautiful mixed dogs that looked like a mixture between a lab and a coocker spaniel.

These two dogs were always interacting with the bar clients and having a great time.

Speaking with the owner he told us he just got a german shepherd puppy from a friend and asked if we wanted to see him.

This beautiful little pup was about a month old and could almost fit in the palm of your hand.
When we asked the owner if the pup would soon join the other two dogs he said "no, I will keep him chained, I don´t want him to be nice like the other two, I want him to be a mean guard dog".

Hmmmm, this is exactly how you should NOT treat your guard dog.
We are using this example with a german shepherd but it could very well apply to a rottie as well.

A well balanced rottie or gshepherd should be well balanced and have a guard instinct without the need of chaining him up all the time.

He will have an incredible judgment of when to be friendly and when the owner needs protection.
Believe it.

Chaining him up all the time will only backfire at you.

So here is the tip for the day, don´t keep your rottie chained too often, no dog likes to be chained.

Rottweiler caring

Today we are going over the subject of giving your rottie a bath.

Before going into details on how to do it we would like you to remember that dogs, unlike humans, do not need to bath very often.

What do we mean by "often"? Unless your rottie is rolling in the mud on a frequent basis you should give a bath only once a month.

You see dogs have self cleaning substances in their coats and if we give baths too often then we deprive them of this auto protection.

Conclusion: too many baths = your rottie stinks more.

Now that you know the frequency let us show you te main steps of the bathing process:

1. Test the water to be neither cold nor warm. Lukewarm is best.

2. Put a good amount of shampoo to care of all the dirt, then rinse well to remove all the soap. Do not leave soap on your rottie´s coat. hint: use only dog shampoo not human as it can cause allergies.

3. If you are using a tank or tub, make sure that your rottie is secured safely.

4. Wash the head beeing careful that no shampoo goes into the eyes.

After finishing give your rottie a nice treat for behaving so well during the process.

Have fun!!!

All the best,
Andy & Dinna

Rottweiler behavior

Rottweiler behavior - First Part

Imagine having a dog that is both powerful and gentle.
Imagine that he is there to protect you but knows when someone is your friend and accepts him.

This would be a dream dog right? Well my friend welcome to the rotties world.

A well trained and balanced rottweiler will protect you from a thief trying to get to your house and at the same time know that someone is your friend because he picks up on your energy toward this person.

That´s a typical rottweiler behavior

We have seen lots of cases where rotties acted this way. That´s the good news.

The bad news is that the media almost only reports the other side of the coin. "rotties biting this" "rottweilers attacking that..." and so on...

To learn how to have a balance rottie you must know how to handle him, respect him and be very very firm.

The results will be priceless...

Have a great time with your best friend

Rottweiler names

Once you have made a decision to buy a Rottweiler the next step is to choose a name for the puppy. Maybe you are asking yourself if there are some typical rottweiler names that are used over and over by rottweiler owners.

Well, there is no such a thing as "you must choose this or that" however you can sometimes see a pattern happening when talking about rottweiler names.

Rotties are strong and powerful dogs so usually owners tend to associate powerful names to them. Exemple of these rottweiler names could be "tiger" "bear", "tyson", "Arnold".

Other owners like to choose German sounding names such "Kurtz", "Thomas", "Sepp" or "Herbie".

Whatever your idea you should choose a simple and powerful name for your rottie so that when you call her she will associate the name with something powerful and commanding.

Let your creativity loose when choosing rottweiler names and I am sure that you´ll come up with something nice and original.

Rottweiler health problems

Rotties just as any other breed out there are prone to some rottweiler health problmems that unfortunately happen more frequently.

Let´s take a look at typical rottweiler health problems:

1. Developmental bone and joint diseases
These are pretty common in all large breeds and should be paid attention to. One of the ways to prevent them is to have adequate exercise and and movement. We have seen cases of deformed rotties because they were always chained and confined to small spaces. In one case there was a rottie that would have to climb stairs too often, even in his puppyhood giving him serious joint problems.
What we like to do is taking them for a swim in our special pool but we know that the majority of rottie owners don´t have this possibility. Just try to get your best friend plenty of excercise like walking and running and always monitor if there are any problems.

2. Lymphoma
This is a cancer of the immune system cells causing enlarged lymph glands, diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss and zero energy.
To prevent this we encourage you to feed a natural diet and to check out this vet webpage which talks about the dangers of vaccines and medications http://as2006.vetsecrets.hop.clickbank.net

3. Osteosarcoma
Bone cancer also very common in rotties and other large breed dogs. We have lost many of our rotties to this terrible disease. Again as in point 2 we encourage you to visit http://as2006.vetsecrets.hop.clickbank.net and take a natural approach.

These are some of the most common rottweiler health problems, soon we will examine more of them. Stay tuned on our blow.

Free Rottweiler Puppies

Are you looking for free rottweiler puppies?

You can certainly find some sources of free rottweiler puppies if you take the time and effort to do your research.

However there are some things that you must keep in mind when considering to get free rottweiler puppies:

1. You won´t find the best, well bred puppies because responsible breeders most likely won´t give you free rottweiler puppies unless they know you personally and know that you will be able to take good care of the puppy.

2. Responsible breeders probably will think that you are not serious about taking good care of your rottweiler if you are not willing to pay for it.

3. Remember the costs that are involved in owning a rottweiler. This costs range from food (rotties eat a lot), vaccinations, vet trips, toys, kennel and so on.

As you can see there are a lot of things to consider.

If your finally made the decision that you can take good care of your rottie then the best way would be to contact someone in your area who already owns a rottweiler female and ask if she will have any puppies.

Wishing you good luck on your search.

Big German Rottweilers

If you are looking for big german rottweilers there are some things that you must keep in mind. First of all the rottweiler breed has some very well defined standards that should not tollerate too big rottweilers or too small rottweilers.

You should try to stick with the standards because they exist for a reason.
Proportionate rottweilers are both strong, agile and good looking. There is harmony between all the body parts.

Last but not least big german rottweilers could also have some joint problems because they are out of proportion and their joints might not support the extra weight and muscles.

Stick with the standard and look for serious german rottweiler breeders.

Here are the standards:
Dogs: 24-27 inches (60-68 cms)
Bitches: 22-25 inches (55-63 cms)

Dog skin problems

How about dog skin problems? It is our experience that sooner or later almost all rotties get them wheather they are temporary or chronic.

When this happens owners get very confused as to the cause.

To simplify the diagnosis keep in mind that there usually are six essential categories of dog skin problems as follows:

1. Allergies, for exemple a reaction to a type of dog food, medications, flowers or flea and thick bites.

2. Environment: did you use a new type of detergent to clean the carpet or the kennel where your rottie is staying? Try removing it and see what happens

3. Infections, which could be bacterial, viral or fungal.

4. Neurogenic; this is when your rottie has some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder that triggers the compulsion to lick himself until there is an irritation on the skin.

5. Food, this is when some key ingredient is missing from your dog´s diet. You might even want to look at a natural diet instead of just feeding dog food.

6. Parasites such as fleas, thicks and mites which can produce a variety of skin problems.

As you can see the causes of dog skin problems are different and sometimes hard to detect.
If you wish to investigate more on this topic there is a great special report put out by Linda Kajda in which all the skin problems are covered in great detail as well as a bunch of natural alternatives that your rottie will love and which will save you a great number of trips to your vet.
